Air Cadets from Tynemouth Squadron have supported a veteran's open day at Rothbury House in Northumberland.
The cadets were invited to take part in the event to help raise funds for the veteran's at Rothbury House. The Royal Air Force Association manages and funds Rothbury House, a retirement facility for airman and airwoman. The house, situated in the picturesque village of Rothbury in Northumberland offers full time residential care as well as respite care for men and woman across the UK.
RAFA branch chairman, Syd Graham organised the open day. "We wanted to invite RAFA branch members from across the North-East to give them an idea of how their fund raising supports the veterans who live here. But we needed some first class entertainment, that's where the band from 346 (Tynemouth) Squadron came in."
"Our job was to play and entertain everyone who came to see Rothbury House." Cadet Daniel New told us. "But we also helped out with serving tea and cakes, it was great chatting to ex-airman and airwoman, they had some really interesting stories to tell."
Along with members of the Royal Air Force Association, residents of Rothbury and members of RAF Boulmer all had a chance to listen to the Tynemouth band. "It's important that our cadets have the chance to support the Royal Air Force Association in any way we can."
Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Will Close-Ash told us, "We all part of the extended RAF family and families help each other out, the cadets really enjoyed the day."
