Tynemouth Squadron beat off stiff opposition from over 400 applicants to win one the scholarship award in 2006

The applications were put into a short-list and the winners were picked by a panel of judges that included Graham Thompson of Trail Magazine, Niamh Lyon, Timberland UK and Ireland Marketing Manager, Shane Winser of the Royal Geographical Society and Rupert Pratt of Generate Sponsorship.

Outdoor Adventure - Will Close-Ash - Hardrock.

The aim of this project is to give young people in the North Shields area of the North-East the opportunity to undertake and adventurous expedition overseas in the Pyrenees. Young people in this unprivileged area rarely get the chance to undertake a mountaineering/outdoor expedition. As they are part of the air corps, the team of cadets have decided that as part of this project, they would like to raise funds for the North-East air ambulance.

We are now entering our third and final year of sponsorship. So far, the scholarship has enabled 21 young people to take part in an overseas adventure, supported UK expeditions for more than 100 cadets and through joint sponsorship, the squadron has raised over £5000 for local charities. Thank You Timberland!
