Squadron Staff and NCO Team

The Squadron is run by a dedicated team of staff and Cadet NCO's (non commissioned officers), we currently have 2 commissioned members of staff who are Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Officers, we have a Squadron Warrant Officer and a large selection of Civilian Instructors, many of whom are retired from the Royal Air Force or retired ATC Officers and Warrant Officers.

This depth of knowledge and experience is pooled together to provide the broad range of activities and expertise that 346 is renowned for.

The commanding officer is Flight Lieutenant Will Close-Ash. Will is a school teacher and has been in command of Tynemouth Squadron for over 8 years. In 2005 he received a certificate of meritorious service from Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear for his services to the air training corps.

The Cadet NCO team is made up of cadets from the Squadron who have shown their potential and have been given the opportunity to lead. Promotions are made by the Squadron Commanding Officer up to the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant, promotion to Cadet Warrant Officer (the highest rank a cadet can reach) is made by the Wing Commander. All cadet NCO's over the age of 18, become "Instructor Cadets", which is shown by Instructor Cadets being appended to their rank slide
